The Funky Four and The Case of the Missing Sign

For a long time, it was a sleepy village without a sign. When the community of Waterbeach erected a village sign in 1979, it became a source of pride for the villagers.

Then one day, the sign suddenly disappears.
Who would steal a village sign?
And why would they steal it?

Four precocious Waterbeach school kids take it upon themselves to investigate because the "grown-ups" are not taking it seriously. Is the disappearance of the sign related to a recent football match? Is it related to the new homes being built on the edge of the village? Or is it related to the legends of the Lantern Men who used to haunt the marshy Fens in the area?

In their quest to find the village sign, the Funky Four stumble upon hidden secrets, longstanding rivalries and forgotten legends. Just like the Fens, when it comes to the sleepy village of Waterbeach, there is more to it than meets the eye.
